Qantas cabin baggage allowance
Qantas splits its carry-on rule between international and domestic: 7 kg for one piece in international Economy, but a generous 14 kg across two pieces (max 10 kg each) on domestic flights — including domestic Business.
The short answer
Overhead bag up to 56 x 36 x 23 cm, underseat personal item up to 34 x 48 x 23 cm. International Economy: 7 kg (1 piece). International premium cabins and all domestic flights: 14 kg across up to 2 pieces (10 kg max each).
Cabin bag: size and weight at a glance
| Item | Qantas allowance |
|---|---|
| Overhead bag (max size) | 56 x 36 x 23 cm |
| Underseat item (max size) | 34 x 48 x 23 cm |
| Garment bag option | 114 x 60 x 11 cm, counts as the carry-on |
| Weight — international Economy | 7 kg (1 piece) |
| Weight — international F/J/PE and domestic | 14 kg total, max 10 kg per piece |
| India departures | 1 overhead piece only |
Dimensions always include wheels and handles unless the airline says otherwise.
Personal item policy
The underseat item — handbag, laptop, small backpack within 34 x 48 x 23 cm — travels in addition to the overhead piece and its weight counts toward the same allowance.
Checked baggage: how it works
Checked allowance is piece-based, set by route, cabin and fare; Platinum and Gold Frequent Flyers (and oneworld equivalents) get extra allowance. Qantas' pages carry current tables.
If your bag is too big or too heavy
Bags outside the sizer or weight are checked at airport rates. Qantas' page lists current excess and gate-handling charges.

Baggage rules change without notice. Always confirm with Qantas before flying — current official page: Qantas — carry-on baggage (official).
Weigh before you wing it
Most carriers here enforce a 7–10 kg cabin limit. A luggage scale costs less than one gate fee and ends the guesswork.
