Hong Kong Airlines cabin baggage allowance
Hong Kong Airlines keeps its carry-on rule simple: one cabin bag and one small item, with a single combined weight cap that depends only on your cabin class.
The short answer
One cabin bag up to 56 x 36 x 23 cm plus one small item up to 40 x 30 x 15 cm: the two together may weigh up to 7 kg in Economy or 15 kg in Business.
Cabin bag: size and weight at a glance
| Item | Hong Kong Airlines allowance |
|---|---|
| Cabin bag (max size) | 56 x 36 x 23 cm |
| Small item (max size) | 40 x 30 x 15 cm |
| Weight — Economy | 7 kg combined (bag + small item) |
| Weight — Business | 15 kg combined (bag + small item) |
Dimensions always include wheels and handles unless the airline says otherwise.
Personal item policy
A handbag, laptop bag or similar small item is allowed in addition to the cabin bag, but its weight counts toward the same combined limit — there is no separate personal-item allowance on top of the 7 kg / 15 kg cap.
Checked baggage: how it works
Checked baggage is allowance-driven by route and fare. As a structural limit, a single checked piece may not exceed 32 kg. Buy extra bags in advance rather than at the airport — same-day rates are the most expensive option.
If your bag is too big or too heavy
Cabin bags that exceed the size or weight limit at the gate are taken for checking in the hold and charged at gate rates, which are the airline's steepest. Weigh your bag at home if you are near 7 kg.

Weigh before you wing it
Most carriers here enforce a 7–10 kg cabin limit. A luggage scale costs less than one gate fee and ends the guesswork.
