Lufthansa cabin baggage allowance
Lufthansa's standard carry-on is a tidy 8 kg in a 55 x 40 x 23 cm bag plus a 40 x 30 x 15 cm personal item. The trap is at the bottom of the fare table: the cheapest Economy fares include only the personal item.
The short answer
Standard: 1 carry-on up to 8 kg (55 x 40 x 23 cm) + 1 personal item (40 x 30 x 15 cm). Business / First: 2 carry-ons, each up to 8 kg. On the cheapest Economy fares, only the personal item is included.
Cabin bag: size and weight at a glance
| Item | Lufthansa allowance |
|---|---|
| Carry-on (max size) | 55 x 40 x 23 cm |
| Carry-on weight | 8 kg |
| Personal item (max size) | 40 x 30 x 15 cm |
| Business / First | 2 carry-ons, each up to 8 kg |
| Garment bag option | Folded garment bag up to 57 x 54 x 15 cm may replace the carry-on |
Dimensions always include wheels and handles unless the airline says otherwise.
Personal item policy
The personal item must fit under the seat. On Light/Basic-style Economy fares it is the only cabin item included — check your fare before packing a roller bag.
Do status or loyalty tiers change the allowance?
Cabin class changes the count: Business and First passengers may bring two 8 kg carry-ons. Frequent-traveller status does not add cabin bags on Lufthansa's own published table.
Checked baggage: how it works
Checked allowance is piece-based by route, cabin and fare (e.g. one 23 kg piece on many Economy fares). Current tables and prepaid options are on Lufthansa's checked-baggage pages.
If your bag is too big or too heavy
Carry-on above 8 kg or outside the sizer goes to the hold, charged at airport rates. Lufthansa's page carries current excess charges.

Weigh before you wing it
Most carriers here enforce a 7–10 kg cabin limit. A luggage scale costs less than one gate fee and ends the guesswork.
